San Juan, Puerto Rico, is home to some of the oldest and most historically significant churches in the Americas.
This is Catedral Basílica Menor de San Juan Bautista. I was lucky to visit this in March. It was a treasure and highlight of our visit!
Catedral Basílica Menor de San Juan Bautista – One of the oldest cathedrals in the Western Hemisphere, dating back to 1521. It houses the tomb of Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León and features stunning Gothic architecture.
Capilla del Santo Cristo de la Salud – Built between 1753 and 1780, this small chapel is steeped in legend and cultural significance, honoring a miraculous event that has captivated visitors for centuries.
San José Church – Established in 1532, this church is a prime example of Spanish colonial architecture and once held the remains of Ponce de León before they were moved to the cathedral.
Parroquia San Agustín – A Catholic church in San Juan known for its historical and religious significance.
Each of these churches offers a glimpse into Puerto Rico’s deep-rooted history and architectural beauty.
